Near South Pass
The Sweetwater headwaters near South Pass. This is where the trail crossed the continental divide. Elevation here about 8000'. You can see the shadow of a contrail to the right of the river
Split Rock
This shot looking north. You can see the sweet water passing thru the split. I passed a few miles south of here on my cross country bike trip about 10 yrs ago and could see this from the highway. There is not much around here.
Sweetwater River
This is southwest of Casper looking toward Split Rock, another famous landmark along the trail.

Scottsbluff National Monument
Covered wagon on a trace of the trail headed over Mitchell Pass which forced all the wagons in trail rather than spreading out which they preferred to avoid the dust,
Chimney Rock
This pinnacle was a famous landmark for the pioneers. Near Scottsbluff NE. We're not in MD anymore.
Beautiful Morning
Westbound near Ayr NE. The trees mark the Little Blue River which the Oregon Trail ran beside here prior to joining up with the Platte River
Homestead National Monument
Since we had an airport car and some time, we checked out the homestead museum just outside Beatrice. It is supposedly on the site of the first homesteaders claim. Also part of this facility is a one room schoolhouse that was used up until the 50's.
